BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) LGBTQ+ Literature

These BIPOC Literature Lists are a Resource for You to Explore, Linked to External LGBTQ+ Sites

Unlike the other curated pages at this site, here I include only links to various external BIPOC “best books” lists. To find the links below, Googled terms included: best lgbtq books [THEN ADDED FOR EACH SEPARATE SEARCH… BIPOC / Asian American Pacific Islander / AAPI / Black / African American / Latinx / Hispanic / Native American / First Nations / Indigenous / et al.]. Books encompass fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry.

Audre Lorde

As I read more widely in BIPOC literature, and increase my understanding through the diversity of queer BIPOC authors, I’ll add selected titles to my Recommended LGBTQ+ Literature page (that I’ve been working on since 1997; BIPOC authors have been included since day one). But there I do not use the discrete categories included here for reference: Combined BIPOC, Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI), Black, Latinx, Native American. This is an exciting journey into, for me, new writings and worlds.

NOTE: You can read the opening 10 or 20 pages of every book in print, including all titles on these lists, through Amazon’s “Look inside” feature (top left of each book page). ALSO NOTE: Lists below are organized by date of publication.

Links for Combined BIPOC LGBTQ+ Books (includes all or most BIPOC groups; while the four lists that follow below each focuses on one group)
